Kristen Draper, SIA Figure Skating Coach

My name is Kristen Draper and I have been a member of the Sherwood Ice Arena team since 2003. I currently teach Sherwood Ice Arena’s Learn to Skate classes, private and semi-private lessons that include all levels and ages of skaters.  I enjoy teaching all aspects of skating however I believe my expertise is in artistry, choreography and spins. I pride myself in giving children the greatest skating experience they can have and most importantly a fun one. I focus on making each skater the best they can be, by focusing on what the individual skaters goals are.

I am very familiar with USFS and ISI curriculum and am comfortable with both. I’m a PSA accredited coach and believe in continuing education. I’m a graduate from Portland State University with a degree in Social Science and a minor in Sociology. While studying for my degree I have researched and gained knowledge of all learning styles and feel it vital to be perceptive of each. I’m a native Oregonian and have been in the skating community for fifteen years. I skated competitively, which gave me some wonderful experiences but I also have always enjoyed the recreational side of skating too. I have trained under National and Olympic level coaches with various styles and techniques that include Carla Fassi, Peter Oppegard, and Evelyn Kramer.  I not only trained locally but also enjoyed training in California.

I still enjoy skating and try to skate as much as possible. I currently teach six days a week with my hours ranging. I’m always taking on new students, my private lesson rate is $60/hour and I book lessons in 20 and 30 minutes increments. I look forward to meeting you all!!!
