Thursday night Family Super Sticktime/Pick Up Hockey

Time: Offered Thursdays at 5:15 till 7:15 pm. Cost: $17. Historically each session has been full (sold out) each week, so we suggest calling the rink after 12pm on Thursday and prepay to hold your spot. NO MORE THAN 30 SKATERS will be allowed on this session. No reserving of a spot prior to the Thursday morning of the sessions.
This new session consists of two FULL hours of ice time. The first hour is Stick Time for everyone to work on individual skills and allow SIA’s hockey coaches to conduct their private lessons. The next hour after we take off the extra nets is about 50 minutes from 6:25 till 7:15 and is referred to as the “Family Pick Up Hockey” portion of the session.
“Family Pick Up Hockey” is a fun, noncompetitive pick up game for youth and adults. The goal is an enjoyable atmosphere for a low key rec hockey game for all ages and abilities. Family open hockey encourages moms & dads, sons & daughters, even neighbors to all get out on the ice together! Anyone who can skate and wants to play can drop in. This is just like at the neighborhood pond in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. All players must wear full gear, including full face shield for anyone less than 18 years of age.
The spirit of play is important. There’s no scoreboard and there are no scouts in the stands. Always play to make those around you enjoy the experience. Play to the lowest common ability level. Remember, there are kids out there mixed with adults. There will be no slap shots and no contact of any kind. A SIA hockey coach will be part of the program to keep the pace of the game safe and to give pointers during the flow of the game. In addition to coaching and keeping the pace safe, the coach will also be dividing up teams and provide a “real game” feel; calling offsides, icing, and having faceoffs after goals. SIA envisions this pick up hockey time to be low key, low speed hockey. Please remember our focus is for a fun time for the smaller, younger children. Please watch your speed and your level of play. When in doubt, tone it down. This time isn’t meant to be an upbeat game or a game to show off your skills. The program’s goal is to be a place for the younger children and beginning players who don’t have a league or a time during the year to enjoy the on ice game of hockey. This is a slow play, low key, non-competitive hockey time for beginners. If you’re not a beginner and you’re not here to support the beginning players, this session is not for you.
Time: Thursdays at 5:15 till 7:15 pm started in April. Cost: $17. So far this session has been full (sold out) each week, so we suggest calling the rink after 12pm on Thursday and prepay to hold your spot. NO MORE THAN 30 SKATERS will be allowed on this session. There’s no holding of spots prior to Thursday morning to call.
*No punch cards or discounts *No separation of the hours for cost purposes. This will be a 6 month program and run until mid September.
