Blow Torch your stick?

Anyone know why some of these hockey players take a propane blow torch to the bottom edge of their sticks?  Is it to melt the tape down so its harder and resists caking on so much snow? Huh

Saw them do it in the movie "Mystery Alaska" also. Undecided

Whats the story?

Big Todd,

back in the day when we all used wood sticks, you would heat and bend (curve) the wood blade to fit your preference.
