Dan Dang, SIA Figure Skating Coach
Dan Dang started figure skating when he was 6 years of age. Today, almost 12 years later, he has gone on to complete all of his USFS tests, earning him a double gold medal in moves in the field and freestyle. Jumping was Dan’s favorite aspect of skating and where he was determined to excel. He eventually reached his goal and landed all of his triples, which he views as his greatest accomplishment as a skater.
Dan has competed in events that included regional, sectional, and junior national competitions. Throughout his competitive years, he often traveled the country to train with world class coaches like Tammy Gambill, Johnnie Bevan, and Phillip Mills, just to name a few. Working with these different, yet successful coaches, he has picked up on various techniques and different approaches to success. He has also trained in environments where national champions are born, and watched as close friends and training partners seized podium finishes in the most prestigious competitions.
He witnessed the hard work it takes to be able to soar above the rest and on to the international scene. Now, as a coach, he is ready to pass on these tips and tricks, both big and small, to any skater with a passion for the sport and will encourage a skating environment and training mentality, that will help foster tomorrow’s champions. A coaching style that is refreshing and fun, yet promotes dedication, perseverance, and self integrity.
Newly retired from the competitive scene, Dan brings forth the energy and enthusiasm that inspires skaters to reach their full potential and to make their dreams a reality. Dan’s motto is “limits only begin where an athlete’s vision ends”. It’s a motto he lives by.
